Two Italian Families struggle to reconcile their Old World values with their kids' New World ones. The results are side - splittingly funny and deeply affecting!
The story of Mambo involves Angelo (played by Francois Chiesurin) having to come to terms with and
"come out"
to his old-school Italian immigrant parents
(Mary Long and Tony De Santis). The timing however coincides with a dinner party thrown by his parents and their dear friend, Lina (Norma Dell Agnese) who has intentions
on setting up her son Nino (Phil Luzi) with Angelo's sister Anna (Melissa D'Agostino) and brings with her to the party a girl named Pina, (Melissa Mancini)
who might be
"perfect"
for Angelo. The makings of a classic farce!
But the pain and heartache associated with the coming out test both family's beliefs and long-held convictions.
Steve Galluccio's script tackles more than sexual identity. It instead focuses on familial relationships, generational gaps, and the stubbornness of denial in tight communities.
The play does not take a typical Hollywood-ending route, but instead finds a comedic and satisfying conclusion in the warmth of real relationships, acceptance and tolerance.
